Docusaurus survey form

Add a short survey to your Docusaurus docs with no plugin. Use dropdowns for quick answers and one open field, paste it into an MDX page, and responses land in your inbox. No backend of your own.

How to build it

  1. Create a form in your Formpaste dashboard and copy its access key.
  2. Paste the markup into an .mdx page and rename class to className.
  3. Replace YOUR_ACCESS_KEY_HERE with your access key, then deploy.

Docusaurus gotchas

Docusaurus pages are MDX, so a Formpaste form is markup you put straight in the doc. There is no plugin to install and no theme to swizzle. The one catch is that MDX treats markup as JSX, so the pasted snippet needs className instead of class.

MDX is JSX, so use className

In an .mdx file anything that looks like HTML is actually JSX. Rename class to className on the pasted form, and write any inline style as an object like style={{marginTop: '1rem'}} rather than a string. The unstyled CSS snippet is the easiest one to adapt.

No plugin and no swizzling

You do not need a Docusaurus plugin, and you do not need to swizzle a theme component. A form in the page body works in docs, in the blog, and on standalone pages alike.

Move it to a component when it repeats

If the same form belongs on many pages, put it in src/components/ as a .jsx or .tsx file and import it into each doc. That is the pattern the Docusaurus docs recommend for anything beyond a one-off, and it keeps the markup out of your prose.

Keep the hidden access_key

Leave the generated hidden access_key input in place so Formpaste knows which form the submission belongs to. It is a normal input, so it survives the move into a component unchanged.

What to get right

Keep it short to keep completion high

Every extra question loses responses. A couple of dropdowns and one open comment field usually gathers what you need without fatigue.

Dropdowns beat free text for analysis

Fixed choices (select fields) are easy to count later. Reserve the textarea for the one open-ended question that genuinely needs it.

Make email optional for honest answers

Anonymous responses are often more candid. Ask for email only if you need to follow up, and mark it optional.

How it works

Three simple steps for form submissions to land in your email inbox.
Create your form, set your form's action URL to Formpaste's endpoint, and add your access key.

1

Create your form

Sign up, verify your email, and create an access key in your dashboard.

2

Copy the code

Paste the snippet above into your project. Pick CSS or Tailwind to match your site.
