Angular multi-step form

Build a multi-step form in Angular with no backend. Keep every field in one FormGroup, show a step at a time in the template, and post the whole value once at the end. Copy the component and add your access key.

Step 1 of 3

How to build it

  1. Create a form in your Formpaste dashboard and copy its access key.
  2. Copy the component above and split the template into steps.
  3. Replace YOUR_ACCESS_KEY_HERE with your access key, then deploy.

Angular gotchas

An Angular contact form is a component with a FormGroup and a submit handler that posts to Formpaste. There is no backend and no API of your own. Build the group, bind it to the template, and post the value.

Import ReactiveFormsModule

The template directives are not global. A standalone component needs ReactiveFormsModule in its imports array, and an NgModule-based app needs it in the module. Leaving it out is the usual reason formGroup and formControlName appear to do nothing.

Bind the group, not each input

Put formGroup on the form element and formControlName on each control. Angular keeps the values in the group, so the submit handler reads this.form.value instead of touching the DOM.

No API route of your own

The component posts straight to the Formpaste endpoint, which removes a mailer and a submissions store you would otherwise build. HttpClient works too if you already inject it, but plain fetch is enough.

Validators are client-side

Validators.required and friends improve the form in the browser. They do not filter spam and nothing of yours runs on a server, so Formpaste applies its own spam filtering after the post.

What to get right

One form, several screens

A multi-step form is a single submission split across steps in the UI. Collect all the fields in client state, then post once at the end.

Route per step is optional

You can give each step its own URL for back-button support, or keep it all on one page with local state. Both post the same final payload.

Post the whole payload once

Do not post on every step. Gather the fields as the user advances and send one request when they finish.

How it works

Three simple steps for form submissions to land in your email inbox.
Create your form, set your form's action URL to Formpaste's endpoint, and add your access key.

1

Create your form

Sign up, verify your email, and create an access key in your dashboard.

2

Copy the code

Paste the snippet above into your project. Pick CSS or Tailwind to match your site.

import { Component } from "@angular/core";
import { FormControl, FormGroup, ReactiveFormsModule, Validators } from "@angular/forms";

const ACCESS_KEY = "YOUR_ACCESS_KEY_HERE";

  standalone: true,
  imports: [ReactiveFormsModule],
